MCIOB is equivalent to a
British Bachelor's Degree, and FCIOB is equivalent to a Master's Degree
Qualified
& Experienced Practitioner Pathway (Industry Pathway
£398):
If having a Bachelor’s Degree (or
comparable qualification) and proof of solid professional construction
management experience, this pathway is the best one for you, as it will you
reach Chartered Membership. This pathway gives tailored support from the CIOB
to help you complete CIOB Professional Review.
A typical cost to Chartership using this
pathway, over four to six months, is £663, including all relevant assessment
and membership fees.
CIOB
Fellowship pathway:
When you have attained Chartered
Membership, you can progress to a much higher position, which is Chartered
Fellowship. A fellow is among the most knowledgeable and experienced professionals
in the construction industry. This professional having this title can attain
global recognition for their skills and attainments throughout their career.
You may be a Fellow in less than 6 months.
The
application process for Fellowship:
If applying to upgrade from MCIOB, you need
to produce a 3,000-word reflective account of a project or initiative you led,
by which you can show your competency in leading people and organizations
within the sector.
If you apply directly for Fellowship, you
need to produce an additional 3,000-word report that must be based on a project
or initiative you led. It must show that you fulfill the professional review
standards for MCIOB.
All candidates have a professional
discussion, called a viva voce exam, which lasts for nearly 1.5 hours. This
exam is conducted by trained professionals, and it includes 2 assessors and 1
chair. The whole discussion is based on your written project, as well as an
interactive discussion on a topical issue affecting the industry.
Before you can move further with your
written application, the authority will ask you to attend a workshop in its
London or Bracknell Office (or using Skype if you can’t attend in person) to go
through the Whole Fellowship process.
You will be charged £155 to attend. After
that, this fee will be deducted from the £700 Fellowship Assessment fee when
submitting your final application.
