Pathways For Stage 2 Engineers Australia Competency Standards

Stage 2 Engineers Australia competency standards are a criterion that you must achieve to become a CPEng (Chartered Professional Engineer) in Australia. This standard shows your knowledge, skills, engineering application abilities, technical qualifications, disciplines and principles that you need to display to work individually or unaccompanied.

The purpose of this assessment:

The Engineers Australia competency standards are based on aspects like commitment to service, demonstrating value at work, having an obligation to the community and demonstrating technical proficiency. The gateway for Chartership and National Engineering Register is the stage 2 competency standard assessment. Attaining this status comes with the responsibility of maintaining your engineering competency in your area of expertise.

As a Professional Engineer, you have to deliver various competencies as per your experience. Let’s discuss the important parts of the competencies:

·        Learning the requirements of the consumer, stakeholder and society as a whole.

·        Focusing on expanding the growth of economic, social and environmental aspects over a lifetime of engineering products.

·        Dealing with other professionals from different backgrounds.

·        Indicating that the engineering input is fully incorporated into the overall program or project.

·        Interpreting technical possibilities for industry, culture and government.

·        Making sure that risks, prices and limits are fully understood about the outcomes.

·        Making sure that non-technical and technical aspects are adequately balanced.

·        Management of risks and maintenance of long-term viability.

·        Making sure that all facets of a method, project or procedure are built on sound logic and basic values.

·        Easily identifying how emerging technologies apply to old ones.

Pathways:

You can apply for the assessment of Engineers Australia Stage 2 competencies using the following pathways. The following are the pathways to prepare your report that will show the engineering knowledge you earned to date:

·        Engineering Competency Report (ECR)

·        Professional Development Program (PDP)

·        Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA)

·        Mature Experience Engineer (MEE)

Mutual Recognition Agreement (MRA):

EA has set up mutual recognition agreements (MRA) with engineering bodies across the world. If you are a member of a reciprocal organization, the MRA will make it easier for you to join Engineers Australia at an equivalent level of membership.

You can also apply for Chartered status using this arrangement. Besides that, you can join the National Engineering Register in some cases.

Under the Engineers Australia competency standards MRA, formal academic qualifications have to be recognized by both organizations under the Washington, Sydney or Dublin Accords. If your academic qualification is not acceptable under one of the accords, you may have a competency assessment.

How to apply:

If your organization is on the list and your qualification is accredited by Engineers Australia, then you need to create an account and apply via the EA member portal.

The copies of the following documents you need to upload with your application:

·        Primary pieces of information like a passport photo page, current driving license or a copy of the birth certificate

·        A degree certificate (testamur) or previous assessment letter from Engineers Australia

·        Current resume

·        Academic transcript

·        Membership number with the reciprocal organization

·        Proof that you are in good financial standing with the reciprocal organization.

·        Evidence of Chartered status or registration with the reciprocal organization.

If applying for Chartered or Registered credentials, provide proof of a minimum of 150 hours of CIP over the last three years.
