What Is CIOB Professional Review

Attaining Chartered Membership requires most candidates to go through the CIOB Professional Review. This system evaluates that you have the required knowledge, skills and experience in the three main areas of competence: professionalism, occupational and management.

When you pass this assessment, you will become a Chartered Member, which will allow you to use the designation MCIOB.

How to apply for the Professional Review:

Academic and experience requirements:

You are required to fulfill the academic eligibility criteria with a minimum of three years of relevant work experience (5 years if you don’t a qualification in the built environment or in a non-honours degree) before you apply. You must hold a Level 6 (degree) level qualification or above to fulfill the academic eligibility criteria.

Membership:

You already need to be a non-chartered member (Applicant) of the CIOB. If you are not an Applicant member yet, register for an online account. After that, apply for a CIOB Membership.

Download the Professional Review Form:

Pay heed below to know which form you should download.

Which form is good for you?

Three Professional Review forms are available. Which one you need is dependent on your work experience and qualifications. When you have joined the CIOB at Applicant grade, choose the form for you from the options below.

The Application Form is a PDF document, so ensure that you use an official programme like Adobe Reader to complete the application form. By doing it, you can save the information that you are putting into the document.

Don’t use a browser to complete your application, as it may lead to the information you have put in being lost. CIOB recommends downloading the document. After that, open it with a PDF reader.

Professional Review for those working in the industry:

It’s the most common Professional Review for every application apart from those with selected Level 7 NVQ Diplomas or those working in the academic field.

NVQ Professional Review:

NVQ Professional Review is a way with a much shorter form for those with NVQ7 or SVQ 11. If having a different NVQ or other qualification, you need to fill in the Industry route form. For eligibility to take up the NVQ route, fulfill both of the following conditions: Your NVQ is less than 3 years old, and your NVQ assessor was a Chartered Member of the CIOB when your assessment time. If both of these conditions are not fulfilled, complete the Industry Professional Review.

Professional Review for academics:

It is a tailored route, which is suitable if you are a lecturer, teacher or researcher, and you don’t have direct experience of working on site, or have worked on site for a while. Hire a CIOB expert to know more about the Academic route.

Guidance notes:

You will be required to read the guidance notes that you will get with the application form, detailing the supporting documents that you need to submit with your application. For instance, you may submit an up-to-date resume and a current record of your CPD.

Verification:

Your application has to be endorsed by your line manager, a client or a construction professional who knows you well. You can know about this in the guidance notes that you will get with your application.

Support:

CIOB Mentoring Service:

CIOB has a Professional Review Mentoring service, which supports mentees who are working towards completing their Professional Review.

Local workshops:

You can also benefit from the Professional Review workshops that are often hosted by local hubs.

Professional Review Support Provider:
