Fellow membership:

Fellow membership is an honour given to those individuals who have a minimum of 15 years of work experience and have made gigantic contributions to the project management profession.

The AIPM Board considers applications, and one can apply by direct contact.

Fellowship with AIPM means recognition of your contribution to your profession and the AIPM. In addition, this membership will allow you to use the post-nominal letters, FAIPM.

Fellow criteria:

Admission as a Fellow of the Australian Institute of Project Management is by invitation or application only. An application for admission as a Fellow must be forwarded to the National Office Membership Team for review and recommendation to the Board. Entry into the Fellow grade may be by Special invitation or Standard Method as given below:

a.   Standard Method: an applicant for admission into the Fellow grade may be admitted by the Board if the Member Experience Team has the satisfaction that they:

1.   Have a minimum of 15 years of experience as a project professional, program manager, project manager, portfolio management or in a project governance or sponsor role (or equivalent); or

Have held the AIPM RegPM™ certification level of CPPM™ (or above) for a minimum of 6 years;

2.   Have made a distinguished contribution to project management in the country or elsewhere, or

Have exceptional attainment in project management throughout your career.

3.   Have the membership level of Member in the institute.

You also need to:

 

1.   have a written reference from a minimum of 1 current financial Member of the Institute; and

2.   have a written reference from a minimum of one colleague who can vouch for the years of experience and offer background about your character and commitment to the profession of project management and has known you for at least 5 years.

B. Special Invitation: the Board may at any time, by resolution, invite a person to become, and admit such a person as, a Fellow on the basis of expertise, experience or standing irrespective of that person having otherwise met the requirements for admission into the Fellow status given in the above criteria.

A current financial Fellow may be denoted as FAIPM.

Applying for certification if not a resident in Australia:

Although from a workplace evaluation perspective, it is often useful for your assessor to observe you in your working environment, it is not essential. Many overseas candidates have successfully completed the AIPM certification program, communicating with their assessors over mail and by video calls.

Remember that you will be required to be able to complete your assessment documentation, offer project management advice and take part in an interview in English.
