It works as a national framework of registration for professional engineers, engineering associates, and engineering technologists across the private and public sectors.

It is a publicly-searchable database, which allows individuals and businesses to have access to qualified engineers, endorsed by Australia’s engineering peak organization.

Eligibility criteria for the NER:

Attaining this credential will allow you to showcase your talent, skills, and experience as an engineer to prospective employers and clients.

It’s mandatory for you to be a member of Engineers Australia to apply for the NER Australia credential.

To be eligible, you are required to satisfy the following criteria:

·        You need to have an Engineers Australia-recognized engineering qualification or a successful Engineers Australia migration skills assessment or membership competency assessment.

·        You need to satisfy all 5 NER competencies.

·        You need to have five or more years of related full-time equivalent engineering work experience you earned in the last 10 years, with a minimum of four years of full-time equivalent post-graduate experience.

How to apply for the NER Australia Credential?

You have to go through the following five-step process to apply for the NER status:

1.   You need to make an account in the EA portal.

2.   Login and complete the online self-assessment form to rate yourself considering the NER competencies and apply for NER.

3.   Have two relevant referees who can verify your latest work experience.

4.   Face a NER interview that will be conducted by a qualified Engineers Australia assessor.

5.   Get your outcome notice. If it is successful, you will be automatically added to the register.

6.   If you are a member of Engineers Australia, it is allowed for you to join the NER when you apply for Chartership.
